Nelson Waldorf School

This school instilled a great love of learning in our two youngest daughters. They took themselves through university and have continually been recognized for their enthusiasm to learn more, resulting in steady promotions in their respective fields.

Nelson Waldorf has a wonderfully large 35 acre rural campus, a new gym, a very cool round Eurythmy Hall, woodshop, handwork shop and a large upper field for soccer and other activities. The teachers are passionate and well trained in the Steiner approach. Nelson is just 3 minutes away, and a tight-knit and family oriented hip small town with a big city feel. Field trips include mid-winter ski days at world famous Whitewater Ski Resort which is only 20 minutes away up the mountain. Other class trips include historic Fort Steele in the East Kootenay, Creston Wildlife Reserve and the Greek Olympics in Hope BC.

As a previous student for 2 years at this school, whom is now an adult, this school is horrible. Of multiple schools I attended in BC and the US, Nelson Waldorf had the worst bullying between students, and the worst behavior by teachers I have seen either (broad statement, obviously some are wonderful). Experiences going here in 2nd and 3rd grade took years to fully work through emotionally, and I know many other kids who had similar issues after leaving the school, often needing counseling.Talking to other Waldorf families in other regions, it seems that the Nelson Waldorf is somewhat unique in its extreme toxicity. So While I don't believe all Waldorf schools to be like this by any stretch, I highly encourage either not sending your child here, or being very vigilant and listening to them if they say they are experiencing problems at school.
